Project Ohio Sunshine encompasses building a new 2-gigawatt photovoltaic module manufacturing facility in Ohio.
The objective of the project is to make use of the local infrastructure and workforce to increase domestic production capacity of PV modules to meet projected future demand for solar energy in America, and to increase American energy supply chain security by onshoring production that is currently dominated by Asia Pacific countries.
Repurposing the in-place infrastructure from a coal power plant and upskilling the displaced workforce through workplace development programs implemented as a part of a Community Benefits Plan with the Port Authority and other community partners, will dramatically reduce the required resource investment to ensure the success of the overall project.

Robert Black III is currently the CEO of BlackStar International, a manufacturer of photovoltaic modules for the solar energy industry. Under his leadership, BlackStar is actively working on the Ohio Sunshine Project. The Ohio Sunshine Project is just one example of the work they are doing.
The property that Robert N Black III and BlackStar International are currently set up as a coal power plant. Since the plant closed in 2020, a large labor force has been displaced, leaving the facility unused. Through the Ohio Sunshine Project, BlackStar International hopes to bring new life to the facility, repurposing the existing infrastructure to produce clean, solar-powered energy. Currently, the solar power industry is dominated by other countries, and projects like this can help the United States increase energy supply chain security. Additionally, the hope is to provide training to “upskill” the displaced workers from the power plant and provide new jobs to boost the local economy.
Not only will the Sunshine Project provide clean energy and new jobs, but Robert N Black III and the rest of the leaders on the project are passionate about ensuring the project benefits the community.
